Recovering an FTP Snapshot in Cloud Sites
Recovering an FTP Snapshot in Cloud Sites
An FTP snapshot is a read-only image of your FTP data, taken during specific time intervals. For Cloud Sites, snapshots are taken every 4 hours and go back 32 hours. Snapshots ONLY include your FTP and website content. Snapshots do not include any database information. Retrieving data from FTP snapshots is an emergency recovery method, and is not intended to be used for general backup purposes. We strongly recommend that you use your own backup process using a cron script or other tool.
If, however, you need to view your FTP snapshots, this article can help!
- Using your FTP client, log into your Cloud Sites website using your FTP credentials.
- You'll be able to see the FTP filepath in your FTP client: this is the folder structure for your website. At the end of this filepath, add:
.snapshot
If the filepath doesn't automatically change, press Enter. If your FTP client won't allow you to change the directory path, you may have to manually change the directory. - Now, you'll be able to see all the snapshots for your website. Available snapshots will be listed as subdirectories. Navigate to the appropriate folders with the data from the time period you need. You will see an exact duplicate of the parent folder's data at the time the snapshot was taken.
- Because the snapshot data is read-only, you will need to download the files you need to access, and then re-upload them via FTP as needed.
